Anahita is the name given to the ship by Captain Esfandiar. It is the name of a Persian water goddess and was given in hope of bringing good fortune to the ship. It is the last sailing life-supporting ship on earth. Out of 300 deployed vessels, it is the only one left standing due to pure luck (and a capable crew). It still stands strong 160 years after the great flood. However, it needs constant maintenance and labor to keep going. Or else it will also sink like all the others.

Isla is a seventh generation mechanic in the vessel Anahita, her and her older brother have been taught from a young age how to care for and manage every part of the great ship. They have spent most of their childhood in the dark innermost parts of the ship and only ventured to the surface and the four cells to help fix something with their father, who was the director of engineers on the ship. Isla grew up not knowing any other life than the constant work that keeps the ship afloat, and due to mistreatment of the workers and her father, she developed a bit of an antagonistic attitude, despite this she aspires to be director of engineers one day and to make the many changes the ship needs to relieve some of the burdens from the workers.
